Opus 28 (2017) – Lunar Phases

Program Notes

This work harkens back to the early days of minimalism and is directly inspired by Steve Reich’s Piano Phases (1967). Two melodies for percussion are overlaid and alternated every-other note. The two melodies are phased continually throughout Lunar Phases while the velocity increases to a frantic pace. The piece is notated for unspecified percussion, and performers are encouraged to experiment with different sound combinations.
